Aston University's Centre for Business Prosperity recently hosted a discovery day for the Department for Business and Trade (DBT), bringing together researchers and policymakers from both organisations to establish a new partnership based on research credibility. The event, held on May 2nd, aimed to identify policy evidence gaps and explore new directions for UK trade research and collaboration opportunities. The Centre for Business Prosperity, whose research core strengths include trade policy, productivity, export dynamics, foreign investment patterns, technology and innovation, market and competition, and regional entrepreneurship, focussed the discovery day on how globalisation, trade and investment policy impact firms' internationalisation strategies and their competitiveness. The day also examined how these interactions impacted broader economic prosperity among industries, regions, and nations – drawing in further expertise from the Enterprise Research Centre (UK) and University of Warwick colleagues. In the future, the partnership between Aston University and the UK Department for Business and Trade will focus on addressing key challenges facing UK trade. Both organisations are excited about the potential for close cooperation, research staff exchange, joint studentships and other forms of collaborative working in the future.

There are so many Aston Alumni with real-world experience of building businesses, or managing organisations who could have contributed to this discussion: it is a pity we were not invited.

This was a great effort
